Role overview
Entangled Publishing is seeking a Vice President of Marketing to lead its marketing strategy and execution. This role is crucial for transforming great books into cultural moments and building Entangled into a brand that extends beyond publishing into gaming, live events, and other direct-to-consumer products. The ideal candidate is deeply immersed in fandom culture, understands reader passion, and can translate that understanding into impactful marketing campaigns.
This is a hands-on leadership position. You will manage a team of marketers while actively participating in shaping campaigns, making budget decisions, analyzing data, and staying connected to fandom trends. You will report to the President and play a key role in defining the future of Entangled Publishing.
What you'll do
- Build and protect Entangled, its imprints, books, and IP as brand assets that attract and convert readers and fans throughout their lifecycle.
- Develop and grow Entangled's reader community across various channels, fostering deeper engagement with existing fans and attracting new audiences.
- Collaborate closely with publishers, editors, and product teams to define marketing goals for each title and product launch.
- Coordinate all functional marketing resources (brand, paid media, communications, creative, social) to execute against defined goals.
- Set the go-to-market strategy for major launches, overseeing positioning, messaging, creative execution, and paid amplification.
- Own performance marketing outcomes, identifying drivers of growth and making data-informed investment and cut decisions.
- Direct creative services to ensure all assets are on-brand, compelling, and effective in engaging readers.
- Lead and mentor the marketing team, setting high standards for quality and accountability, developing junior talent, and fostering a culture where execution is as valued as ideas.
- Represent marketing at the leadership level, providing clear insights on budget, strategy, and results, and partnering effectively with the CEO, President, and other functional leads.
Who you are
- You possess a genuine passion for romantasy and genre fiction, with a deep understanding of fandom and what drives reader obsession.
- You have experience across brand, paid media, communications, and creative, with credibility in all these areas.
- You have a proven track record of leading and mentoring marketing teams, with demonstrable success in developing talent.
- You think in terms of outcomes and hold yourself and your team to that standard.
- You are comfortable operating in a lean, fast-moving environment with inherent ambiguity.
- You are committed to closing the loop, valuing execution and measurement alongside strategy.
- You are data-driven and familiar with modern performance marketing tools and metrics (paid social, search, attribution modeling) and financial performance.
- You are excited about future growth opportunities and building a team that can adapt to diverse products like books, games, and expanding IP.
Ideal background
- 10+ years of marketing experience with significant exposure across multiple disciplines and team leadership experience.
- Experience in book publishing or entertainment media.
- Experience with consumer brands that have passionate, fandom-driven audiences.
- Experience in the creator economy or community-led growth companies.
- Experience with streaming platforms or digital media.
- Experience in startup or growth-stage companies where you held multiple responsibilities.
Bonus points
- Experience marketing in the romantasy, romance, or genre-based space.
- Proven track record of building or growing a brand or fan community.
- Experience with live events, experiential marketing, or gaming audiences.
