Role overview

The Sr. Environmental Health & Safety Specialist will lead the site implementation of Corporate developed environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs and systems. This role ensures safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly working conditions, recommending measures to reduce or eliminate industrial incidents and health hazards in compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations. The specialist will also review, revise, and develop new EHS programs and provide compliance oversight for Indianapolis-area warehouse operations. Some travel to sites within the region is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the site implementation of Corporate developed environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs and systems in collaboration with fulfillment site leaders.
  • Ensure safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly working conditions by conducting site assessments for adherence to company policies and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
  • Recommend measures to reduce or eliminate industrial incidents and health hazards.
  • Assist management in conducting accident investigations.
  • Review, revise, and/or develop new EHS programs based on company needs or regulatory changes.
  • Perform compliance review of regulatory programs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on one or more EHS programs, such as industrial hygiene, electrical safety, ergonomics, or machine guarding.
  • Develop compliance assurance plans to assist facilities in meeting environmental goals.
  • Provide technical subject matter expertise to manufacturing, engineering, and facilities personnel in evaluating the environmental, safety, and health aspects of manufacturing processes, chemical use, and building design.
  • Travel to sites within the region as required.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the functional work or role, with 5-7 years of relevant work experience, OR demonstrated ability to meet job requirements through a comparable number of years of applicable work experience.
  • Ability to apply broad work experience and knowledge when analyzing complex problems.
  • Must be able consistently identify critical elements, variables, and alternatives to develop solutions.
  • Must be able to organize/prioritize existing resources and incorporate new information, as needed, to implement the most effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to state messages clearly and in language that is easy for others to understand.
  • Ability to explain program policies and procedures in understandable language.
  • Ability to modify communication style, both formal and informal, to match the appropriate level of the targeted audience.
  • Strong understanding of the impact of a message on the organization or customer.
  • Ability to write with the clarity and precision necessary for the work being performed.
  • Excellent business acumen and collaborative skills when resolving problems.
  • Excellent functional computer knowledge in utilizing Microsoft Windows, MAC, or other technical tools.
  • Expertise in all tools or applications used to complete work assignments.
  • CIH, CSP, CPE preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of environmental regulations applicable to air, water, and waste sources and/or federal and state OSHA programs.
  • Ability to prepare environmental reports such as Tier II, Form R, air emissions, and water discharges.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Pay: $80,000 - $85,000 annually
