Role overview
Hachette Book Group’s summer internship program offers individuals an opportunity to learn about the publishing industry and explore an area of interest. As an HBG Publicity and Marketing intern at Timber, you will have the opportunity to work closely with seasoned professionals and gain hands-on professional experience as you own day-to-day tasks, help with special projects, and attend departmental meetings.
The Publicity and Marketing Intern will work with the broader Publicity and Marketing Department to learn skills and fundamentals of creating and implementing book campaigns. The intern will work with the team on social media content, research for media coverage, pitch material creation, departmental system maintenance, and other departmental projects as needed.
Logistics
- Program dates: September 21st, 2026 – December 11th, 2026
- Location: Portland Hybrid (up to three days—Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday—per week on-site)
- Company laptop will be provided for the duration of the program.
- Weekly schedule: 28 hours per week, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, with a one-hour lunch break.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay rate: $17.00/hour
What you'll do
- Work with the Social Media Team to create seasonal and book-specific social media campaigns.
- Help schedule posts and content for social media channels; flag issues for follow-up.
- Conduct event and influencer research.
- Assist with materials creation, including press releases, media lists, influencer spreadsheets, and publicity plans.
- Provide administrative support as needed.
Who you are
- Interested in exploring a career in nature and non-fiction publishing.
- Self-starter with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Enthusiastic and excited about discussing recent books you’ve read.
- Possess a great attitude and a desire to learn, as well as excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and contribute insights.
- Resourceful with the ability to balance multiple responsibilities and work independently.
- Must be results-driven and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as needed.
- Possess attention to detail and the ability to prioritize workload.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with Asana is a plus.
