Role overview
To guide assigned titles through the editorial process from accepted manuscript to production-ready files and to work cooperatively with other project editors, departments, and authors to ensure a smooth editorial process.
Responsibilities
- Manage the schedules of assigned projects, adjusting time spent on various stages to ensure on-time delivery of each project.
- Work constructively and diplomatically with authors.
- Copyedit and/or proofread assigned titles, as time allows, knowledgeably applying Chicago Manual of Style, 18th ed., and house style guides.
- Hire appropriate freelance editors and proofreaders and closely review their work.
- Work with the Managing Editor to set appropriate project budgets and adhere to them.
- Communicate and coordinate cross-departmentally to ensure quality and on-time publications.
- Attend and actively participate in regular editorial meetings.
- Cooperate with editorial peers in refining editorial procedures and standards.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in biblical studies, theology, history of Christianity, or closely related subjects
- 3+ years of book-editing experience
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Solid knowledge of the 18th edition of The Chicago Manual of Style
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word and editing and proofreading techniques
- Knowledge of the Bible
- Working knowledge of biblical languages
- Good interpersonal communication skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks, follow schedules, and meet deadlines
- Self-motivated
