Role overview

American Book Company is seeking a dedicated, mission-driven Outside Sales Representative to spearhead our growth across North Carolina. While our main headquarters is in Woodstock, GA, this role is a field-based position covering the North Carolina region.

You will serve as the face of American Book Company, building lasting relationships with schools and districts. This is a high-activity role that balances autonomy with strong organizational support.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an average of 40 face-to-face visits per week to educational institutions.
  • Collaborate with our Inside Sales team to map out efficient routes and outreach strategies.
  • Represent the company at educational conferences, managing booth setups and lead generation.
  • Stay ahead of legislative actions, educational trends, and product updates to serve as a consultant to your clients.
  • Attend weekly sales meetings (typically Fridays) via voice conference or webinar.
  • Submit all customer contact annotations and requests in the CRM within 24 hours.
  • Participate in monthly progress meetings to review territory growth and visit metrics.
  • Manage conference leads and follow-ups within 5–7 business days.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an educator is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of American Book Company resources is a significant plus.
  • Ability to manage leads and documentation via our CRM (Sprocket) with high accuracy and a 24-hour turnaround.
  • Comfort with consistent travel throughout North Carolina.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary plus a commission structure.
  • Mileage reimbursed at the standard federal rate.
  • Company credit card provided for travel-related expenses (lodging and food), with meal reimbursements following federal per diem guidelines.
  • Comprehensive initial and ongoing training covering product knowledge, sales techniques, and CRM management.
