Job Description

Role overview

As Director of Product, Consumer App, you’ll own the strategy, growth, and execution of Lonely Planet’s flagship mobile experience. Your primary mission is to increase traveler engagement and retention. You’ll build a product travelers return to repeatedly before, during, and after every trip—creating deeper relationships with our brand while driving sustainable business growth. This is a highly cross-functional leadership role where you’ll partner with Design, Engineering, Editorial, Data, Marketing, and Commercial teams to deliver AI-native experiences that delight travelers and strengthen Lonely Planet’s position as the world’s most trusted travel companion.

What You’ll Own

  • Product Vision & Strategy: Define and evolve the long-term vision and roadmap for the Lonely Planet App. Prioritize opportunities based on customer insights, data, and business impact. Balance long-term innovation with rapid execution and measurable outcomes.
  • Engagement & Growth: Own product engagement, retention, activation, and membership conversion. Develop product-led growth strategies that increase customer lifetime value. Build a culture of experimentation through A/B testing, rapid iteration, and data-informed decision making. Establish and own the app’s north-star metrics and success KPIs.
  • AI-Powered Experiences: Lead the development of AI-native experiences that make travel planning and in-trip guidance more personal, contextual, and useful. Partner with Engineering and Design to bring emerging AI capabilities into products customers love. Ensure AI enhances—not replaces—the trusted expertise that defines Lonely Planet.
  • Product Leadership: Lead cross-functional teams from discovery through launch and continuous optimization. Align Engineering, Design, Data, Editorial, Marketing, and Commercial stakeholders around shared outcomes. Raise the bar for product thinking, customer obsession, business outcomes, and execution across the organization.

Within your first year, you will

  • Increase traveler engagement and retention across the app.
  • Deliver measurable improvements in activation, repeat usage, and membership conversion.
  • Launch AI-powered experiences that meaningfully improve traveler outcomes.
  • Build a disciplined experimentation practice with clear business impact.
  • Establish the Lonely Planet App as an indispensable companion throughout the traveler journey.

Required

  • 8+ years building and scaling consumer digital products, including significant mobile app experience.
  • Experience owning product strategy and outcomes—not just feature delivery.
  • Demonstrated success growing engagement, retention, and customer lifetime value.
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience using experimentation and customer insights to guide investment decisions.
  • Exceptional ability to influence across Engineering, Design, Marketing, Data, and executive leadership.
  • Proven track record balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution.

Preferred

  • Experience leading AI-powered consumer products.
  • Ability to operate AI-native, leveraging LLMs for prototyping, data analytics, user research, and generate PRDs.
  • Background in travel, subscriptions, marketplaces, media, or other consumer technology businesses.
  • Experience with modern product analytics platforms.
  • Passion for travel and building products that customers genuinely love.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Total Cash Compensation Range: $175,000 - $225,000
  • This role is also eligible for a target bonus.
  • Equity may be offered separately and not included in total cash compensation.
  • Actual compensation varies based on location, experience, and qualifications.
  • Health Insurance Coverage (medical, dental, and vision)
  • Life Insurance
  • Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Holiday Pay
  • 401(k) with match
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Paid Parental Bonding Benefit Program
  • Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO): Full-time employees accrue 20 days of PTO annually, with an increase to 25 days after five years of service.

This role is not open to visa sponsorship or transfer of visa sponsorship including those on H1-B, F-1, OPT, STEM-OPT, or TN visa, nor is it available to work corp-to-corp.
