Job Description

Role overview

The Bookseller is responsible for providing exceptional customer service in a friendly and helpful manner. They should be knowledgeable about books and other merchandise, proactively assist customers, and ensure an outstanding shopping experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customers with the highest level of customer service by greeting them, communicating and assisting with questions and orders, and efficient cashiering.
  • Sell all products and promote point-of-sale initiatives, including Membership programs, Magazine for Millionaires program, Educator programs, and other company-sponsored programs.
  • Balance cash drawer following each register shift within allowable variances as identified in the Loss Prevention Policy.
  • Deliver and place product on the sales floor in accordance with merchandising guidelines and timelines.
  • Recover the sales floor during each shift, including picking up items, shelving books and product, straightening bookshelves and tables, and performing store housekeeping tasks as required.
  • Protect company assets by adhering to all loss prevention standards and acting with integrity in all transactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting in other departments, receiving shipments, small fixture assembly and maintenance, assisting with inventory, and restroom cleanliness.

Qualifications

and Education Requirements

  • 16 years of age or older
  • Successful completion of all required background screenings

  • Ability to multi-task
  • Previous retail sales experience
  • Computer and cash register skills

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to use hands/arms to operate a keyboard and telephone for repetitive motion activities.
  • Must be able to lift or team lift objects up to 50 lbs., with or without assistance.
  • Must be able to communicate using speech, sight, and sound with or without an assistive device.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, or crouch while performing daily activities of the job.
